Murale

An international team of multimedia content creators, is developing
and using 3D Multimedia tools to measure, reconstruct and visualise
archaeological ruins in virtual reality using as a test case the
ancient city of Sagalassos in Turkey. The website outlines the actual
project, the concept, recording, restoration, visualize, dissemination,
database and the projects partners.

A website dedicated to the preservation of the Kultja. This is a
good example of the Kultja working with historians and others to
create programs that educate people and preserve heritage.

An excellent, low-budget, effort to draw together a widely dispersed
digital archive and place it in a historical context. Like some
other projects, XA collects digital versions of documents that help
tell an important story. XA extends the concept by providing contextual
materials and secondary sources which link into and back out of
the digital archive.

The Interactive Museum of News

An interactive museum of news. Has old to current new items and
interactive exhibits. The website is the idea of mixing current
events with oral and cultural history/heritage in a modern, interactive
format. Interesting because it offers the reality of current events
as current history, as a cultural heritage.

Pure heritage- a new element for you. Basic home page with links
to search engines for all parts of archives. Very modern and entreatingly
styled. Automated Audio-Visual Information system, a computerized
cataloguing, retrieval and information management system providing
fast and easy access to the audio-visual and oral history collection
in the National Archives of Singapore(NAS). The Oral History Center
(OHC) and the Audio-Visual Archives Unit (AVA) of the NAS create,
collect, document and disseminate oral history interviews and audio-visual
materials of national and historical significance. GRIDS: Governmental
Records Information Database, to facilitate selective preservation
of administratively and historically important government records,
as well as their timely release for the public to see and use. Picture
Archives Singapore, or PICAS, is a text and image retrieval system
on the web.
Villa
Rustica, A Roman Open Air Museum

Recently discovered in Hechingen-Stein, Germany, dating back
to the 1-3rd century AD. Excavation began again in 1992.
Gives several options on how to view the villa – classic, 3D, or
a selection of several panoramic pictures. Also shows the excavation
and research. There is also a slight overview of Roman history that
outlines the significance of the villa.

The site has a selection of online exhibits/ learning resources.
One exhibit focus’s on detailed personal histories about Holocaust
victims. There is a focus on children’s oral histories,their stories.
Uses technology to effectively display specific oral histories to
tell about a historical event.

In the time portal you can take a virtual photograph tour of WWII.
It has many perspectives on WWII from allied to axis powers. Has
a huge selection of digital artifacts. It also has several journals,
interviews, and scrapbooks of soldiers in the war. Has background
information concerning WWII as well.
Harappa
–Glimpses of South Asia before 1947

A history of South Asia with pictures, photos, and sounds covering
a time span of the Indus Valley to Gandhi. Has information from
modern sources as well as the excavation site. The use of technology
to preserve the findings is evident and well done. The site is easy
to navigate, has great images and tons of information.
The
Hermitage Museum

As arguably one of the largest museums in Russia, it does a great
job of providing different way to get the information. With digitizing
technology you can do specific searches or take a virtual tour-
“walking through” the different rooms. Each major piece can be enlarged
to view, and is accompanied with a brief historical description.
Is a very easy site to navigate.
The
Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum

The is the world's largest private holding of important original
manuscripts and documents. The archives include literature, science,
religion, history and art. When a manuscript is selected a digital
image of it is shown that can be magnified to get a better look
at, and there is also a brief history and a transcription of the
document on the side of the digital image.
