Imaging Technique (PIT)
http://www.indiana.edu/~scuba/pit.html
PIT utilizes readily available computer software and hardware to
visually document underwater cultural and biological resources.
Photographs or video images are digitized and saved as a file in
the computer. Computer images are scaled, rotated, and placed into
a "composite file" of the site being documented. The resulting
product is a simple representation of the actual site, with excellent
resolution of selected features. PIT enables site plans to be developed
with minimal diving and computer time.
Archiving
Digital Cultural Artifacts
http://www.dlib.org/dlib/july98/07lyman.html
Written by Peter Lyman and Brewster Kahle. The article looks
at the digitizing of cultural artifacts addressing questions such
as: what will be the consequences of these changes in the nature
of the medium for creating and preserving our cultural heritage;
what new technological and institutional strategies must be invented
to archive cultural artifacts and hand them on to future generations?
This paper, then, is the product of a dialogue between a computer
scientist/entrepreneur and a political theorist/librarian, and represents
an attempt to create a common agenda for action.
